MKRS Law had the privilege of participating in the February Meeting of the South Florida Hospitality Human Resources Association (SFlaHHRA), held at the beautiful Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne. We had the opportunity to engage with members of the South Florida Hospitality Human Resources Association in a focused discussion on workers’ compensation depositions within the hospitality industry.
Equity Partner Omar Perez, Jr. and Partner Mariam D. Yanes presented:
“On the Record: A Deposition Survival Guide in Workers’ Compensation for Hospitality HR.” They shared practical insight drawn from decades of litigation experience, addressing the real-world challenges HR professionals face when navigating sworn testimony in complex claims.
In the hospitality industry—where workforce dynamics, high employee turnover, and physically demanding roles often intersect—workers’ compensation claims can present unique challenges. Depositions, in particular, require preparation, composure, and a clear understanding of the HR professional’s role in the litigation process.
During this engaging and practical session, Omar and Mariam provided attendees with actionable guidance, including:
- Best practices for effective deposition preparation
- Strategies for maintaining professionalism and credibility under questioning
- Insight into commonly requested documents in workers’ compensation cases
- A clear understanding of the HR professional’s role in supporting litigation strategy
The program focused on empowering HR leaders to approach depositions with confidence while reinforcing the importance of accuracy, consistency, and thoughtful documentation.
